A Dub Transmission from deep in the Underground. Guest-starring an array of the scene’s finest talents and mixed by some of the most well-respected and intrepid dub voyagers.

Perilous takes you on a wall-shaking visit to the Selection Train labels’ dubplate archives, deconstructing and reshaping 7 never-before-unearthed “secret weapon” soundsystem mixes into an atmospheric and uplifting dub journey...

“As we trod from the iniquity of the western inner city to the Heights of Creation, we follow the Children of the World on a hazardous path away from discrimination and social unrest, fending off evil spirits in deserted lands and witnessing the powerful rituals of ancient civilisations before reaching the warm welcome of their Spiritual Home”.

(1) “Tottenham Special” is a previously completely unreleased steppers tribute to the monumental “Mash Down Babylon” dubplate built in the early ‘80’s by the Father of Reggae Music, Jackie Mittoo. Mark Professor chants down babylon in a furious fashion while the angelic voices of the Children of the World urge us to protect their future planet. Perilous delivers a raucous dubwise mix on this raw, militant soundsystem weapon.

(2) “Road To Rights” is a driving dub update of the Abyssinians’ ‘70’s roots anthem “Declaration Of Rights”. This take of the rhythm harks back to the 90’s Jamaican Roots heyday, and is expertly stripped down to it’s pumping components by Dougie Conscious to bring this sound system staple bang up to date. Starring Leroy Horns on sax and Susie Sparrow delivering the haunting vocal refrain.

(3) “Ghost Town” is a dangerous digital tribute to The Specials’ seminal track. A sparse, eerie rhythm giving way to the searing melodies of Makating Horns and Don Fe’s ghostly flute. Originally an exclusive dubplate for UK soundsystem Rebel Lion, two cuts of this rhythm were eventually released. However, Dougie Conscious gets wildest in the mix on this particular dub which was firmly stashed in the “Personal” folder until now.

(4) “River Nile Rock” and (5) “Desert Mirage” revisit Perilous & Makating Horns’ “Nefertiti Skank / The Sphinx Rises” 10” vinyl release, a thunderous steppers instrumental workout with a rumbling infectious bassline. Ominous chanting summons soundman lightning and thunder as Makating Horns’ majestic Sax and Trombone exchange leads in to Perilous’ menacing far-east melody. A cantankerous dub odyssey, once again featuring unruly alternate soundsystem mixes with Dougie Conscious at the desk.

(6) “Savannah Welcome” and (7) “Pinnacle Heights” hail from the birth of the Selection Train label - serene and weighty instrumental dubs of our first release: “Red Blood” by the legendary Studio One trombonist Vin Gordon. The first cut borrows the sublime sax line from Hugh Mundells’ later piece of the rhythm “That Little Short Man”, leading in to a deep and meditative dub. The honourable Mr Gordon joins us for the Grand Finale, blasting an extended solo in to the mix that is as magical as it is deadly. Dubbed in to the ether on both cuts by Nick Manasseh and given full false-start dubplate honours. Test-proven on soundsystems around the world, this bassline shakes the foundations!
